How to make your own fabric labels
Ok, it’s true. I’m a Scottish lass to my roots, and proudly #frugal. Therefore, if I don’t have to spend money, I’m happy.
Recently, when I decided I wanted to add labels to my makes, and I started perusing the online choices, I was somewhat disappointed. Mostly, I didn’t want a tag sticking out of my makes. I just don’t like that look. Additionally, I wondered if people would just cut them off. What a waste!
What I really wanted was something that I could wrap around the edge of a project. Something like…, of course!
Binding!
Gosh, I’ve been using binding for years and have had a lot of fun making my own with wonderful fabrics. There are countless videos describing how to make these, and I’ve added a video below that demonstrates this.
It occurred to me recently that I could probably make my own fabric labels and in fact, it was quite easy. Straight up, if your sewing machine does not have a function to create text, you’re going to be out of luck with this strategy. Most machines do have this feature, though, so check your owner’s manual.
No matter what you’re creating, regardless of the stage or skill level you are at, be PROUD of your makes! You put your time, energy, money (too much!), and passion into your creations. Let the world know, “I made that.” No apologies.
